I am home resting for the afternoon, and will have my first steroid shot at the hospital tonight at 5pm. Steroid shots are given to moms who are at risk of delivering their baby pre-term. It is a two dose system that speeds the development of the fetal lungs and blood vessels to increase survivability rates in babies born long before their due date. I will have a second follow-up dose at the hospital tomorrow night at 5pm. Babies cannot receive the shot prior to 24 weeks, so today is the day we have been awaiting for the past several weeks! The doctor said that weeks 24 – 28 are critical and that it is “not a good time to deliver a baby.” Let’s hope Junior heard that warning and hunkers in for a LONG LONG time! While my doctor would ideally like to have me go to week 37 before delivering, he said at this point he would be happy with getting me to week 32. We’re trying to break it up a little more and set the goal of getting to week 28 so we are at least past the critical period!
Although Eric and I are both confident that all will be fine in the upcoming weeks, we appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers that have been sent our way.
