On Monday, Brecken and I flew to AZ for the first leg of our vacation.
Despite having an ear infection, he did GREAT on the plane ride, sleeping for most and reading books when he was awake. We don’t have a lot of plans while we are here other than visiting with family and meeting the recently born Baby Kalaya. Brecken seemed to adapt to the 2 hour time zone change without any problem, staying awake until 8pm (Arizona time) from the first night and sleeping in until 8-8:30 in the morning. He even slept in until 9am one morning!! He has adapted to the change even better than me!
Hanging out with Great Grandma Gott…
Uncle George and Aunt Kathy are ALWAYS a lot of fun!
Trying on Aunt Kathy’s cool looking red shoes…
Preferring to hold them instead of wearing them…
Putting the shoes back on Kathy
Should Brecken wear the shoes??
NO NO silly Kathy…. the shoes go on YOUR feet!
Yay for reading books with Aunt Kathy!
He has been having a great time, up until yesterday when he just didn’t seem like himself. He didn’t eat lunch and then yesterday afternoon his eyes were glassy, he was very sluggish, he wasn’t interested in eating or drinking, and his temperature slowly got warmer and warmer… Finally, last night, his temp had reached 103 and I decided to take him to the Pediatric Urgent Care. By the time we got checked in, it was almost 104 and Brecken was MISERABLE to say the least. They did blood work on him to rule out other infections (all came back clear, thank God!), and it was decided that he wasn’t responding to the medicine he’s been on the last week for his ear infection. Bummer! They switched him to a stronger medicine and that is where the fun REALLY began…. Immediately following his first dose last night, he puked all over (and I DO mean ALL OVER!). I called the pharmacy to see what to do since he obviously didn’t get any… she suggested trying again, but this time mixing it with chocolate milk to disguise the taste and putting it in his sippy cup. All that accomplished was that he 1.) Will probably never drink out of his sippy cup again for fear that “that stuff” will be inside and 2.) Several more gags throughout the rest of the night. As of now, he’s gotten none of the new medicine, but we will try again this morning 🙂 If more puking ensues and/or it still isn’t successful, I’ll call his doctor back home and try to come up with a plan B. I’m shocked that he did so great on the plane last Monday if his ears were still bothering him, and now nervous that our next plane ride to California next Monday won’t go as well 🙁
Also, you can imagine the surprise in the receptionist’s voice last night upon check-in when I said we had been there before and he noticed our Minnesota address. Yes, the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Pediatric Urgent Care has been officially added to Brecken’s short list of hot spots in AZ!!
