My doctor appointment

I am first of all happy to report that I am writing this from my bedroom at home!  NOT that I am in the least bit excited about being back in this awful room that now feels like a prison, but better to be here than in the hospital downtown 🙂  At least here I get my doggies!

The news was pretty good from the doctor.  I’m slightly more effaced (50%) but not yet dilated (whew!).  He did run a few tests that will be back in 24-48 hours so I should have all results by Friday afternoon.  One was to test for infections, and the other is a test called Fetal Fibronectin.  While I somewhat followed the doctor’s explanation (he’s really good about showing/ drawing pictures and playing charades to help my mind grasp things!), I don’t understand it well enough to explain to all of you… Sorry.  If you google “Fetal Fibronectin” it’ll give you all the details you’d ever want to know, and then some.
The long and short is that there are two potential outcomes:  If the test comes back negative, then it is 99.9% certain that I will NOT deliver within the next two weeks (YAY).  If the test comes back positive, then I have an increased chance of delivering within the next two weeks (BOOOOOOO!).  The doctor would then further the preventive measures to delay labor for as long as possible, including additional labor-suppressing medications, hospitalization, IV’s, etc.  It all sounds SO fun 🙂  I mean, it’s not like they have a higher or more strict bed rest regiment as I’m currently maxed out on all possibilities there!!!!
Please join us in keeping your fingers crossed that the test comes back negative.  We should know by Friday afternoon…. Just in time to either be relaxed for the weekend or on RED ALERT!

  1. Hey April-
Good to see you are still at home:) Good news then I assume?! Just wondering if the docs have considered a cerclage (google it, I’m not sure if everyone would like the info) You can start on my baby books if you get yours finished. Sad to say I don’t even own one for Tristan an only have one for Caiden because he spent his first week in the NICU. Is the family comming over for Easter? If not let me know and we will bring you some dinner! Hopefully all stays quiet and that little man gets a few more weeks! You are all ready an amazing mommy for giving this time to make him as healthy as possible. Take Care, Alyse
